Chapter one · The rescuer

But Stephen is helping to change that.

Stephen is a survivor of the lake. As a boy, he hauled nets before sunrise and dove into cold water to untangle them. Today he has dedicated his life to going back, boat by boat, village by village, to find children still trapped there.

Each rescue begins with trust: talking with fishermen, families and community leaders, until a child can step off the boat and onto the shore for good.

Chapter two · Healing

At the care center, recovery begins.

They are enrolled in school and counseling programs for PTSD, and see a doctor to heal from what they lived through.

And for the first time in years, they have the freedom to simply play.
